Ruffles & Neon

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Yep, here I am (yes, again) in these brand new Prabal Gurung for Target heels! I promised they would be back at least once more this week....I mean, I just can't resist their charm, power and ultra chicness. So, yes, I gave up my power to a pair of heels (and I KNOW this has happened to some of you too, even if you don't want to willingly admit it!) and didn't look back. A couple things I want to point out in regards to this outfit; somehow a bit of a "throw back to the 80s" happened (and might I add, this was NOT intended (on a side note...it's not like I HATE ALL 80s fashion....just some of it!)), I am loving that the last layer of ruffles on the dress matches IDENTICALLY to my hot pink tights, and I also love that this oversize cardigan tones the color saturation down a bit, making it more "cozy".

Oh, and if you can tell, I tried to do my hair in a modern, high-up-on-my head bun. It looked SUPER great until the wind attacked it. I gotta say, out of all the things I love about NYC, the wind I could do without!! Thanks for reading lovelies! Cardigan- Topshop, Shirt- Old, Dress (worn as skirt)- Free People, Tights- HUE, Heels- Prabal Gurung for Target.

Brilliantly Bold!

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

BOLD. That is what I would call this look. Not necessarily bold because it's more unusual in the styling of each individual piece, but because of the color choices. The skirt I am wearing I bought last year on sale at one of my favorite online shops, ASOS. When I first put it on, I felt like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. (and let's just stop right now and admit we've all wanted to be like her at least one time in our lives!) I just love the look of the full skirt in this fun, bright, eclectic fabric. During the summer months, I typically style this skirt with a nice sandal or colorful pump with a knotted tee @ the waist. I wanted to challenge myself by "winterizing" the look. I am a HUGE fan of "winterizing" pieces of your wardrobe from spring/summer collections....because a girl's got to have options, right? RIGHT! (And let's not forget...we all don't have endless pockets to satisfy our every "winter wardrobe" piece desire!) So, that's where creativity helps! I added some warmth and depth to the look with the cardigan under the bright coat (leaving the coat open is such a cool look....and thank goodness I was in enough layers to actually pull it off and stay warm! :)) and added the blue scarf & knitted beanie to balance out my blue tights. Of course, the look would not be complete without these AMAZING fire-engine red ankle wedge boots. I am in love, you? Hat- J Crew, Scarf- J Crew, Coat- J Crew, Cardigan- Topshop, Skirt- ASOS, Top- Zara, Tights- HUE, Boots- Ego & Greed.

Green Scarf

Saturday, February 16, 2013

Today is such a GRAY day in NYC. It started out with some sunshine...but the sun eventually hid behind the gray clouds. I went to bed so late last night (which was actually morning), just tired and groggy, and gray weather doesn't help the bad mood/groggy thing. Even a strong cup of coffee could not bust me out of this one. Thank goodness I added some "pep in my step" (ok, ok...i couldn't help it!) with the bright green scarf and bright lip. Seeing bright colors helps wake me up, like faux sunshine. These flats are AMAZING, and not just because I got them on a $20 sale (which, ok, let's face it...is pretty rad) and the cardigan which I got at Topshop for 70% off. After putting on the green scarf, I felt my mood boost instantaneously and the overall outcome chic. What do you think? Scarf- J Crew, Cardigan- Topshop, Jeans- Zara, Bag- Zara, Gloves- J Crew, Flats- Zara.

Cape Over Puffy Coat

Friday, February 8, 2013

This look is from last weekend. It was super cold! I don't know about you but when it gets really cold outside (like 25 degrees and below), I start to not care as much (key words: AS MUCH...I still care!!) what the shape or style is like....as long as I am warm!! Here I took my gorgeous cape and wore it over my "sleeping bag" coat. It provided a nice visual element and an extra layer of warmth. How do you stay warm when the weather drops? Hat- J Crew, Coat- Zara, Cape- Zara, Jeans- Old, Gloves- Nordstorm, Belt- Husbands, Boots- Zara.

Primary Colors

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

Primary color combo- simple yet potent. I know, I know-you all are probably tired of hearing me going on and on about color combos....the thing is I am so ADDICTED to them! I love the primary color mix: it is so simple (FACT: the base of all other colors), especially when done in such vibrant and saturated hues. I don't know about you but when I put a piece of clothing/shoes on- it changes how I feel. For instance, when I wear my studded boots and hubby's leather jacket I walk with a swagger and cool (and don't pretend you DON'T know what I'm talking about), when I wear circle skirts and pointy stillettos I feel girly and walk flirtier ((I don't even know if flirtier is a real word)....wink wink ;)) and when I wear bright colors and prints, I walk with confidence, inner strength and poise (BONUS: Great for your posture!!). This look over-all stimulates my endorphin's making me SMILE :) Happiness is a good thing!! Can you tell in that jumping picture? Yep, thought so. GANGSTA!

What's a power piece of yours and when you wear it, what is the effect? Hat- J Crew, Coat- Zara, Blazer- Zara, T-Shirt- Zara, Skirt- J Crew, Gloves- Anthropologie, Tights- HUE, Boots- Bought @ Modcloth.com, Necklace- Vintage.
